I just came back from an amazing week at a Bible camp! That is why I never posted anything last week (sorry for no notice), but today I'm going to tell you about what I learned spiritually at Bible camp.

The Good Life

The speaker at camp talked about what it means to live the good life. The first time I heard it I was a little suspicious. It kind of sounded like some worldly and unbiblical thing, but I soon realized what it really meant.

Many Atheists believe that this life is the only and last life, that there's no other life after you die. If you believe this, you'll try to live the best you can before you die. They want to do everything they can to make their life good, but the world has a very different view of the good life than God does.

The Worldly View of the Good Life

Being worldly means you follow the ways of the world and the ways of the world are the ways of humans. In Genesis we find that the way of humans is not the best way when Eve and Adam ate the fruit. We as humans tend to stray from the truth of God, which always ends poorly. Being worldly is following our own way, not God's.

Taking what being worldly means, we can find out what the good life means from the world's point of view. From the world's view the good life is based on comfort. Everything has to be easy and perfect. The world tells we should want to be famous or rich. This is not a good view of the good life. Being rich might sound nice, but it doesn't give you everything. It doesn't fill that empty place. Not working doesn't fill that spot, and being famous doesn't either. The only thing that can truly fill you up is God.

The True Good Life

The true good life is when that empty spot is filled with God. To live the good life is to fill your life with God and to live for God. What does it look like to fill your life with God? It means to learn about God and depend fully on Him. Read your Bible consistently. Find a Bible reading plan (hint, hint) or a devotional, then dive deep into His Word.

Talk to God about anything and everything. Is your sibling annoying you? Ask God to help you in the situation as it is happening. Do you want to talk back to your parents? Ask God to guide the words of your mouth right then and there. Depend on God to help you with the little things.

By depending on God, you can have hope in Him. The good life means we can have hope in Jesus. We can have hope that when we die we will be with Jesus forever. Hope is more than a feeling of expectation. It is knowing something and fully believing it will happen.

Living the true good life is a life of faith, worship, expectation, and hope. Live the true good life, the life of hope, not comfort, of God, not the world. Live for God.

And More

I learned from experience about relationships during this wonderful week. I didn't really get along naturally with my cabin. I had to choose to be friends with the girls. They seemed so different that me. Their personality was one hard part, but it was more their back ground. Only one went to church frequently. I had a hard time conecting with them and I was forced to picture what their lives were like. God taught me to take someone's life and learn from it spiritually.

Another thing I loved was the worship. Singing is an amazing gift God gave us. Always remember that whenever you're singing or playing music, you are glorifying God. We sing for God, not for people.

What God taught me from Bible Camp

  • What living the good life really means.

  • That I can look at someone else's life and learn from it.

  • That we sing for God, not for people.
