The Big Story Reading Plan, Part 2

Here's the next few days of my Big Story Reading Plan (Day 22-45)


Law

God wanted Israel to be his people, obeying and worshiping Him alone, so He gave them His law to instruct them and His tabernacle as a place of His presence with them.

Day 22 ~ Exodus 20:1-17 The Ten Commandments.

Day 23 ~ Exodus 40: 34-38 God's presence int he Tabernacle.

Day 24 ~ Deuteronomy 6:4-6 God's greatest command.


Live it Out: Write out a prayer to God. Don't forget to praise His name!


Conquest

God then fulfilled His promise to give His people the land; He gave them victory in battle over the people who lived there.

Day 25 ~ Deuteronomy 20 Regulations concerning war.

Day 26 ~ Joshua 3: 14--4:9 God's chosen people enter the promised land.

Day 27 ~ Joshua 6 Jericho is destroyed.


Live it Out: Write out a pop out verse and a prayer. I challenge you to tell someone about your pop out verse and why it spoke to you like it did. If you don't feel comfortable sharing, write or type out why that verse spoke to you like it did. If you don't want to share it with anyone near you, I'd be happy for you to share it with me! King

The people repeatedly rebelled against God, but He remained faithful to them and gave them a strong king, David, to whom He promised a royal line that would continue forever.

Day 28 ~ 1 Samuel 8:1--9 The people ask for a king.

Day 29 ~ 2 Samuel 7:1--16 God's covenant with David.

Day 30 ~ Psalm 110 The Lord gives authority to His king.


Live it Out: Write out a summary of one passage and don't forget to put it in your Scripture box. Then write a prayer to God, thanking Him for keeping you safe.


Temple

David's son Solomon built God's Temple as a permanent place of worship and a sign of God's presence with His people.

Day 31 ~ 1 Chronicles 22:2--19 David prepares his son, Solomon, to build the Temple.

Day 32 ~ 2 Chronicles 3 Solomon builds God's house, the Temple.

Day 33 ~ 2 Chronicles 6:12--7:10 The Temple is dedicated.


Live it Out: Write a prayer to God and one pop--out verse. Now look through your Scripture box or notebook and re--read the first prayer you put int his box. Is there something you wrote that was answered and has to be thanked for? If so, add it to the prayer you wrote today.


Division

But after Solomon's death, Israel split into two kingdoms, and many of their kings led the people to worship idols instead of the true God.

Day 34 ~ 1 Kings 12:1--24 The northern tribes revolt.

Day 35 ~ 1 Kings 12:25--33 Jeroboam makes idols to worship.

Day 36 ~ 1 Kings 18 Elijah defeats the false prophets of Baal


Live it Out: Pop--out verses. Write out a pop--out verse for each passage. If you want or feel comfortable, underline or highlight that verse in your Bible. Feel welcome to share your verse with me!


Prophets

God sent His prophets to urge His people to return to Him and to warn them that disaster would come if they didn't.

Day 37 ~ Isaiah 6 Isaiah's cleansing and call.

Day 38 ~ Amos 2:4--16 God's judgement on Israel and Judah.

Day 39 ~ Zephaniah 3:9--20 The gathering of God's people


Live it Out: Write your two pop--out verses and a prayer. Look through your pop--out verses and choose your favorite. Write it on a sticky note and stick it on the inside of your Scripture box's lid.


Exile

God's people didn't listen, and eventually the Babylonians invaded, destroyed the Temple, and took God's people as captives to Babylon.

Day 40 ~ 2 Chronicles 36:17--21 The fall of Jerusalem.

Day 41 ~ Jeremiah 32:36--44 A promise of restoration.

Day 42 ~ Ezekiel 36:22--37:14 Hope during the exile.


Live it Out: Write out your favorite verse from these three passages with colorful pens and markers.


Return

Despite His people's sin, God remained faithful to them, and after many years of exile, He enabled them to return to the land and rebuild the temple.

Day 43 ~ 2 Chronicles 36:22--23 Cyrus allows the exiles to return.

Day 44 ~ Nehemiah 1 Nehemiah's vision to rebuild Jerusalem.

Day 45 ~ Zechariah 2:6--13 The exiles are called home.


Live it Out: Read the sentence twice before you read each passage. Write two pop--out verses and a prayer.
