Did you know that it’s possible to summarize God’s big story, the Bible, in just 30 sentences? Do this daily reading plan with me as we look at the Bible from Creation to Jesus’ return.
Here’s how it works: Before each passage of the Bible is a day. Read the first day today, the next day read the passage following, the next day read the last passage mentioned. Don’t worry if the passage looks a little dauntingly long and take as much time as you need to read them. There will be a word (Creation, Humans, Fall, etc.) and a sentence that you should pay attention to, and last, a daily challenge called Live it Out. If you want to do it with me, email me at shadow.shinebright@outlook.com
I'll post the next 21 days in three weeks.
Creation
In the beginning God made everything and saw that it was very good.
Day 1 ~ Genesis 1:1-2:4 God makes everything.
Day 2 ~ Psalm 33:1-9 Praise to God, the Creator.
Day 3 ~ Colossians 1:15-17 God created everything through Christ.
Live it Out: Find a notebook, ideally a smallish one (this ties in with the next word and sentence) and write out the verse that stood out most to you each day you read a passage.
Humans
God made Humans uniquely able to share a loving relationship with Him and each other.
Day 4 ~ Genesis 1:26-27, Genesis 2:4-25 God made humans.
Day 5 ~ Psalm 8 Human’s place in God’s creation.
Day 6 ~ 1 John 4:21 We love God because he first loved us.
Live it Out: Find a box. It could be a jewelry box or any other little box. Make sure it’s big enough to fit the notebook from the first three days. Again, write out the verse that stood out most to you from each passage in that notebook. Store the notebook and pen in the box.
Fall
But when the first man and woman disobeyed God, their relationship with Him was broken and they had to leave his presence.
Day 7 ~ Genesis 3 Adam and Eve sin.
Day 8 ~ Romans 3:9-20 Every person is a sinner.
Day 9 ~ Romans 5:12-21 Adam and Christ compared.
Live it Out: You may be wondering what this box is for. Well, the box is called a Scripture box. A Scripture box is a box that holds verses that spoke to you, or some of your favorite pieces of scripture. My Scripture box holds things that remind me of God (like a key chain I made at Bible camp or an encouragement card a friend gave me) and the verses I most enjoy or that popped out at me. I like having it in a notebook, but you can also cut out strips of paper and write your verses on them instead. Continue writing out your favorite verses. We want this to become a habit, but, again, no pressure.
Flood
As humankind multiplied, sin increased, until God decided to destroy life and start over with righteous Noah and his family.
Day 10 ~ Genesis 6:9-22 God's instructions to Noah.
Day 11 ~ Genesis 8 The flood recedes.
Day 12 ~ Hebrews 11:7 Noah builds the ark by faith.
Live it Out: Write out your favorite verses from each passage out in your Scripture notebook.
Promise
God's plan to restore his relationship with humans by choosing Abraham and promising him as son, a land, and a nation of descendants, is put into action.
Day 13 ~ Genesis 12:1-9 God calls Abraham.
Day 14 ~ Genesis 21: 1-7 Abrahams's son, Isaac, is born.
Day 15 ~ Hebrews 11: 8-12 Abraham and Sarah's lives of faith.
Live it Out: You know the drill. Write out the verses that spoke to you, and don't forget to read the sentence before reading each passage (I want you to know the sentences pretty well).
Nation
God fulfilled his promise to give Abraham a blessed nation of descendants, but the nation, Israel, was enslaved in Egypt for 400 years.
Day 16 ~ Exodus 1 The Israelites in Egypt.
Day 17 ~ Psalm 105: 23-25 God blesses Israel in Egypt.
Day 18 ~ Acts 7:17-19 Remembering the Exodus.
Live it Out: Instead of writing out a pop out verse, choose a passage and write a prayer to God about it. Don't worry if you don't quite grasp this concept, but try anyways! Write this in your notebook or on a separate piece of paper and store it in your Scripture box. If you have any questions, shoot me an email!
Exodus
God sent Moses to rescue the people of Israel from Egypt and to lead them to the promised land.
Day 19 ~ Exodus 3 God's call to Moses.
Day 20 ~ Exodus 14 God's rescue of Israel at the Red Sea.
Day 21 ~ Psalm 106: 7-12 Praise to God the Deliverer.
Live it Out: Write out one pop out passage, and then write your own summary sentence for another passage.
Please join me on this adventure! The next part will be coming in three weeks.
